Etymology
Food: substance consisting essentially of protein, carbohydrate, fat,
and other nutrients used in the body of an organism to sustain growth
and vital processes and to furnish energy.
Food Retail Management

Food distribution: process in which a general population is supplied


with food. FAO considers food distribution as a subset of the food
system.

Food System: Sum of actors and interactions along the food value
chain-from input supply, production of crops, livestock, fish, and
other agricultural commodities to transportation, processing,
retailing, wholesaling, and preparation of foods to consumption and
disposal.
Etymology
Food systems should be nutrition, health, safety-driven, productive,
efficient (affordable food), environmentally sustainable, climate-
smart, and inclusive. (IFPRI)
Food Retail Management

Market: Any system or place where parties are engaged in exchange


of either goods or services in lieu of money

Retail: includes all activities involved in selling goods or services to


the final consumers for personal, non-business use. Retailor provides
the goods that customer needs, in a desired form, at a required time
and place.

Food retail: It comprises of food & grocery, and food services. The
consumers buy packaged food, ready to cook, ready-to-eat food, and
avail food services
