DISORDER

NAME: ABHINAW KUMAR SINGH
INTRODUCTION

• The term “neurologic disorder” applies to any condition that is caused by a dysfunction in part of the
brain or nervous system, resulting in physical and/or psychological symptoms.
• Neurological disorders are medically defined as disorders that affect the brain as well as the nerves
found throughout the human body and the spinal cord.
• Some of the most common neurological disorders include Alzheimer’s disease , Parkinson's disease,
migraine headaches, encephalitis, etc.
• Up to 1 billion peoples, nearly one in six of the world's population, suffer from neurological
disorders.
MEDICATION USED IN NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER

1. ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE:
• Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die.
• Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia — a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral
and social skills that affects a person's ability to function independently.
• Worldwide, at least 50 million people are believed to be living with Alzheimer's disease.

1.1 MEDICATIONS USED IN ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE:

(I) Galantamine,
(II) Rivastigmine
2. ATAXIA :
• Ataxia describes a lack of muscle control or coordination of voluntary movements, such as walking or
picking up objects.
• Ataxia is usually caused by damage to a part of the brain known as the cerebellum, but it can also be
caused by damage to the spinal cord or other nerves.

• There's no treatment specifically for ataxia.

2.1 Therapies
• Physical therapy to help your coordination and enhance your mobility
• Occupational therapy to help you with daily living tasks, such as feeding yourself
• Speech therapy to improve speech and aid swallowing
3. PARKINSON’S DISEASE
• Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement.
• In the early stages of Parkinson's disease, face may show little or no expression. arms may not swing
when walk. speech may become soft or slurred.
• Parkinson’s disease is the second most common age-related neurodegenerative disorder after
Alzheimer’s disease.
• An estimated seven to 10 million people worldwide have Parkinson’s disease.

3.1 MEDICATIONS USED IN PARKINSON’S DISEASE:

• (I) Levodopa
• (I) Carbidopa
4. ENCEPHALITIS
• Encephalitis is inflammation of the active tissues of the brain caused by an infection or an
autoimmune response.
• The inflammation causes the brain to swell, which can lead to headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to
light, mental confusion and seizures.
• Encephalitis strikes 10–15 people per 100,000 each year.

4.1 MEDICATIONS USED IN ENCEPHALITIS DISEASE:

(I) Acyclovir
(I) Phenytoin
5. BELL'S PALSY
• Bell's palsy is an unexplained episode of facial muscle weakness or paralysis.
• This condition results from damage to the facial nerve (the 7th cranial nerve).
• Pain and discomfort usually occur on one side of the face or head.
• Bell's palsy can strike anyone at any age.

5.1 MEDICATIONS USED IN BELL’S PALSY DISEASE:

• (I) Valacyclovir
• (I) Prednisolone
6. GUILLAIN-BARRE SYNDROME
• Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves.
• The first symptoms include varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs, which,
sometimes, spreads to the arms and upper body.
• The goal of treatment is to prevent breathing problems and relieve symptoms.
• There's no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome.

6.1 TREATMENT
(I) Plasma exchange
(II) Immunoglobulin therapy
7. MIGRAINE HEADACHES
• A migraine is a strong headache that often comes with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. It
can last hours or days.
• Migraine and other types of headaches, such as tension headache and sinus headache, are painful.
• A migraine is much more than a bad headache.

7.1 MEDICATIONS USED IN MIGRAIME HEADACHES DISEASE:

• (I) Ibuprofen
• (II) Naproxen
.

8 ALS: AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS

• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an idiopathic, fatal neurodegenerative disease of the human motor
system .
• ALS often begins with muscle twitching and weakness in a limb, or slurred speech. Eventually, ALS affects
control of the muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe.

8.1 MEDICATIONS USED IN ALS:AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS

DISEASE:
(I) Riluzole
(II) Edaravone
CONCLUSION

Neurological disorders are currently estimated to affect as many as a billion people worldwide. These
disorders are found among all age groups and in all geographical regions. The number of people with
neurological disorders is estimated to increase considerably in years to come. It is forecast that the number
of people affected by dementia will double every 20 years. Up to 1 billion people, nearly one in six of the
world’s population, suffer from neurological disorders. Worldwide, at least 50 million people are believed to
be living with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias. There's no treatment specifically for ataxia. only
therapy are present like Physical therapy to help for co-ordination, Occupational therapy to help with daily
living tasks, Speech therapy to improve speech. There's no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome, only
some treatment is available like Plasma exchange, Immunoglobulin therapy,
