FLOOD PROBLEMS

IN INDIAN STATES EVERY YEAR THERE ARE MANY AREAS WHICH ARE PRONE TO DROUGHTS
AND FLOODS. ONE OF THE MAJOT CITY IS BIHAR WHICH FACES BOTH. SO WHAT THE SOLUTION
TO IT
SOLUTION 1
Sponge City- Now this idea might seem familiar to you, which was introduced
by China communist part in 2014. India was planning on to apply this idea on
Chennai but, that city already has no problem for water. Bihar is a city in which
if we implement this idea, water would be saved as well as left over water can be
sent to different states suffering from droughts or can be exported outside which
will be an economical advantage for India as we can work on to this project to
make this more efficient and less time taking. So it is a win-win strategy.

SOLUTION II
Usage of Vetiver grasses. See these grasses
not only hold the soil so that the floods
can’t erode the soil, it also is edible for the
cows. So this is again a win-win strategy

Replacement of koshi barrage- The Koshi Barrage is a sluice So The samples of Kosi silt collected from different regions were sent
to the Central Glass and Ceramics Research Institute (CGCRI) based in
across the koshi river that carries vehicular, bicycle, and

pedestrian traffic between saptari district and sunsari district
fine to very fine sand and is dominated by quartz and significant
of Nepal. It was built between 1958 and 1962 and has 56 amounts of muscovite mica. Chemically, this is composed of 72-76% of
gates. It was constructed after the Koshi Agreement signed silica followed by aluminum oxide (10-11%), iron oxide (3-4%),
between the Government of Nepal and India on April 25, potassium oxide, sodium oxide (3-4%), calcium oxide, magnesium

cusec water move towards Bihar with full speed and there is says. The study says that the silt can be used as backfill material in road
construction. Besides, various studies have been quoted to suggest that
sudden increase in water in rivers which cause heavy
the dredged material can be substituted as a raw material for
destruction and loss of life as floods are caused. manufacturing fired bricks for use in construction of buildings. The
dredged sediments can also be used as replacement of raw material
for manufacturing Portland Cement.
