PHYSICAL EDUCATION
It is the integral part of school curriculum, that aims to
overall development of an individual; through well selected
physical activities that will help students attain and maintain
their well- balanced life.
In the beginning, physical education was used in the term of
physical activities, because physical education was essential for
the people to survive.
Meaning of physical education

The term physical education made up of two different words


PHYSICAL and EDUCATION
• PHYSICAL:-The word PHYSICAL means “connected with
body”. This action associated with one or all of the symptoms
of the body. It can be physical strength, physical endurance,
physical fitness, physical appearance or physical health.

• EDUCATION:- The word EDUCATION means that a systematic


guidance for life or a particular task, such as training or
preparation.
These two terms have something in common: a systematic
education or training that is associated with a physical activity
program that is required for the development and maintenance of
the human body, the development of physical strength or the
development of the physical skills.

Education is a working phenomenon: a person learns something
only through deeds. Education is not limited to the classroom, it
can be acquired in the playground, in the library and at home.
Such education proves to be helpful in enriching one’s life. A well
physical education program enables healthy living, social skills,
good physical appearance and efficient use of free time.
Physical education is education that begins with physical
development and makes possible the best development of a
human being.
Definition of physical education

• “The physical education is the part or stage of the whole field of


education that deals with physical activities and the experiences
associated with them” __Jay B. Nash
• “Physical education as, “an integral part of total education process
which has its aim – the development of physically, mentally,
emotionally and socially fit citizens through the medium of physical
activity”.

Aims of physical education

• The aim of physical education must be to make every person


physically, mentally and emotionally fit and also to develop
in him such personal and social qualities as well help him to
live happily with others and build him up a good citizen.
