Power Point:- Microsoft power point is an
application software specially designed
and used for slide presentation (lecture or
seminar).

The power point software provides word


processing, drawing canvas and delivery
management tools for producing a
professional presentation.

let’s get the general
introduction to computer.
COMPUTER
 Computer is an electronic
device designed to accept
data, process data and give
out information that can be
useful to the user.
COMPUTER SYSTEM
 Computer system is a set of
interrelated parts of computer which
are connected together to form a
complete computer so that the
computer can work properly. Note:-
Absence of any part of the system may
affect the proper work or
performance of the computer.
COMPONENTS OF COMPUTER
SYSEM
Computer system has three
components, they include:-
A.Computer hardware components.
B.Computer software component
C.Computer live ware (people ware)
components.
COMPUTER HARDWARE
COMPONENTS
Computer hardware are all
the physical or tangible parts
of the computer which can be
seen, touched or even carried
about.
EXAMPLES OF COMPUTER
HARDWARE
(1) Monitor (2) Key board (3) System unit (4)
Printer (5) Mouse (6) Light pen (7) Joy stick (8)
Flash disk (9) Diskette (10) Speakers (11) Scanner
etc.
 Computer hardware are grouped on the
function they perform in the whole system.
They are grouped into the following
components:-
(1)Input devices (2)output devices
(3) storage devices (4) system unit
INPUT DEVICES
INPUT DEVICES
Input devices are those hardware
components or parts of computer that
are used to send in or put data into
the computer. Input device are very
important to the computer system
because through them computer is
given command and instruction to
make it work properly.

Output devices are computer
hardware components or parts that
are used to make available results of
work performed in the computer to
the user either in hand copy or soft
copy. Hard copy means on paper
while soft copy mean on computer
screen for user to read.

System unit is the part of
computer that brings
together and coordinates the
function of all other parts of
computer to make them work
well.

Computer software are grouped


into two components, they are:-
(1) System Software

(2) Application Software


SYSTEM SOFTWARE
SYSTEM SOFTWARE
System software are those software
that comes with the computer when
the computer is bought newly. They
are programs that are designed and
install by the computer
manufactures/programmers
themselves.
EXAMPLE OF SYSTEM SOFTWARE

(i) Operating system. Examples:


(a) Ms - Dos (b) Pc-Dos (c)
Windows etc.
(ii) Utilities. Examples: (a) Anti-
virus (b) Scandisk etc.
(iii) Editor
APPLICATION SOFTWARE
APPLICATION SOFTWARE
Application software are those computer
programs written and sold in packages by
computer programmers. Computer user will
have to buy application software from software
sellers and install in his or her computer. Most
application software are stored in compact disk
and are ready to run (do it work) whenever the
user put it into the computer.
EXAMPLES OF APPLICATION
SOFTWARE
(1) Word processing e.g:- (a) Microsoft office:-
Microsoft word, Microsoft office excel, Microsoft power
point etc.
(2) Graphics E.g:- (a) Coral Draw. (b) AutoCAD etc.
(3) Games. Example:- (a) Mortal combat. (b) Football or
Soccer etc.
(4) Explorer or outlook (for Communication). E.g:- (a)
Mozilla Firefox (b) Internet explorer etc.
(5) Movie maker. E.g:- (a) Gom player (b) Window
movie maker etc.

 Computer users are important


component of a computer system.
 Computer users are the people who
use the computer and who directly or
indirectly make computer system to
run smoothly.
Components of computer users are grouped into
four, they include the following:

(1) Computer programmers (2)


Computer operators.
(3) Computer Engineers
(4) Computer policy makers

 Microsoft PowerPoint is an application
software program specially designed and
used for slide presentation in a lecture or
seminar. The power point software
provides word processing, drawing
canvas and delivery management tools
for producing a professional
presentation. with Microsoft
PowerPoint,

 the whole presentation is grouped into
related subheadings and each
subheading saved in a separate slide and
the whole slides in any particular
presentation are saved in a file and
named. Once you create a presentation.
Microsoft PowerPoint gives you a variety of
ways to display it. You can:- paper.

(1) Produce a hard copy of your


presentation by printing the slide on

(2) Display your presentation as slide


show on your computer screen or a
projector.
NOTE:
In power point presentation,
always be brief and skip long
details on the slide page. Keep
the detail in your memory and
say it verbally.
STARTING MICROSOFT
POWERPOINT
To start a Microsoft PowerPoint:
(1) Boot the computer to desk top and click start and
check to see if the Microsoft power point program is
saved on the pop up dialog box.
(2)If yes, then just click on the program to open it but if
no, then click on All program on that same dialog box
and a set of programs will pop up.
(3)From the popped up set of program look out for
Microsoft office program and click on it and another set
of Microsoft office program will pop up.

(4) From the popped up Microsoft office programs,


locate and click on the Microsoft power point
program and the start up screen for power point will
be displayed. On the start up screen, you will see
following features:-
(i) Standard tools bar (ii) Slide pane (iii) Note pane
(iv) slide view (v) Normal view (vi) slide show (vii)
Animation (viii) status bar (ix) Slide sorter view (x)
Scroll bar etc.
STEPS FOR TYPING AND
ARRANGING PRESENTATION AND
SAVING POWERPOINT
PRESENTATION.
After the start up screen is displayed, then
do the following:
 Step 1:- Click on the slide pane and write the title of your
presentation. Note: if there is a preferred layout you want your
presentation to appear, then click on the layout button on the
standard tools bar to choose from the templates given
 Step 2:- After you finish with the first slide, click on the new
slide button on the tools bar to get a new slide to continue your
typing. Note: Remember that all related subheadings of your
presentation should be on one slide except where the content
of such subheading is much and makes it necessary to use
more than one slide. Also always indicate “cont.…” wherever
using more than on slide for a particular subheading.

 Step 3:- After typing all your presentation in
various slides, you may wish to give each slide of
the presentation an animation. To assign
animation, click on the animation button on the
tools bar and choose from animation templates any
animation of your choice.
 Step 4:- After typing and assigning animation of
your choice, you can then save the presentation in
any of the two ways:-

(1) By clicking on the office button and click on the
“save As” on the pop up dialog box. After click on
the save As button, all the document saved in the
computer will display, you then type the name you
wish to give your document. Remember to give it a
name you can easily remember its content.
(2) By pressing control key and S key on the
keyboard and a save As dialog box will pop up after
then you save your presentation following
procedures as in (1) above.
OPENING OF SAVED PRESENTATION
AND THE ACTUAL PRESENTATION
To actually present the prepared presentation,
the following steps may be relevant:-

 Step 1:- Click on the start button and a dialog box


will pop up. From the dialog box, click on my
document program.
 Step 2:- After clicking on my document program,
look through the document saved in computer for
the presentation you saved. Once you locate it,
then click on it to open its contents.

 Step 3:- After opening the presentation document, then


click on the slide show button on the tools bar. Set the
slide show as you wish either after mouse click or after a
set minutes. Also choose which slide to start from either
from the beginning or from current slide.
 Step 4:- Deliver your presentation following INTRO
rules.
