Mr. Barnett and Mr. O will assign semester grades from A to E based on students' understanding of TOK concepts throughout the year as demonstrated in class engagement and two final assignments. Students will participate in TOK debates in groups of 2-3 on topics relating to knowledge, choosing from 4 positions. The debates will consist of opening statements, main arguments, rebuttals, closing statements, and final rebuttals between the affirmative and opposing sides, with an audience voting on a winner. Debates will take place over two weeks with groups and positions chosen at random.

Group Project - TOK Debates Choose your own group of either 2 or 3 people (four groups of 2, four groups of 3) Each group gets a position on one of the following topics: 1. The process of gaining knowledge is more valuable than reaching an end result. 2. Reliable knowledge can lack certainty. 3. The quality of knowledge is best measured by how many people accept it. 4. There is a world of difference between truth and facts. Part 1. Opening statements - present the topic and summarize your point of view in a clear and engaging way ▶ 3 minute - Affirmative ▶ 3 minute - Opposing Part 2. Main arguments – Argue the key points in favor of your position in a clear, organized way ▶ 4 minutes - Affirmative ▶ 4 minutes - Opposing 4 minute work Period Part 3. Rebuttal – Propose counterarguments to the oppositions main points, and identify flaws in their arguments ▶ 4 minutes - Opposing ▶ 4 minutes - Affirmative 2 minute work Period Part 4. Closing Statements – Summarize points and explain why your arguments were stronger than your opponents’ ▶ 2 minutes - Opposing ▶ 2 minutes - Affirmative 1 minute work Period Part 5.
