SCIENCE,

TECHNOLOGY AND
SOCIETY
DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM OF SCIENCE
AND TECHNOLOGY IN
THE PHILIPPINES
Science and technology in the Philippines focuses mainly on
the Agricultural and Medical aspect needed daily by its citizens.
The main agency responsible for managing science and
technology (S&T) is the Department of Science and
Technology(DOST).
There are also sectorial councils for Forestry, Agriculture and
Aquaculture, the Metal Industry, Nuclear Research, Food and
Nutrition, Health, Meteorology, Volcanology and Seismology.
The reason to this is the country’s geographical area which is
near the equator and the government needed such adjustments.
HERE ARE SOME OF THEIR PROGRAMS
LISTED ON THEIR WEBSITE:
 DOST-CAR develops and maintains S&T linkages between
and   among   government   and  non-government   agencies
as well   as  HEIs.  The interagency  linkages  proved  very
valuable  in the promotion and implementation of S&T
programs and projects in the region.
 a. Cordillera  Industry  and  Energy  Research and
Development Consortium (CIERDEC)
 b. Highland  Agricultural  Resources Research and
Development Consortium (HARRDEC)
 c. Cordillera  Regional Health Research  and Development
Consortium (CRHRDC)

EMERSON PHILIPPINES STRENGTHENS
LEARNING INSIDE SCIENCE EXPLORER BUS
 Students will have a more engaging classroom experience
aboard the Science Explorer as Emerson Philippines donated
laptops to the Department of Science and Technology-Science
Education Institute (DOST-SEI), the agency behind the country’s
first mobile science learning facility.
 Since its inception in 2010, the Science Explorer bus has served
more than 32,000 students from over 100 municipalities all over
the country. Inside the mobile lab, top young scientists and
engineers teach specialized science and technology modules to
elementary and high school students, mostly from public schools
in far-flung areas in the Philippines.
The
Philippines
has
approximately
7106 to 7641
islands with
108,246,271
people which
the
government is
obliged to the
citiz ens and
help fulfilling
everyone’s
needs. In the
past month,
the
Philippines
hit an
outstanding
94.8% in the
employment
rate leaving
only 5.2 %
unemployed
Filipinos
 So, to prevent it from falling again the Department of Industry
proposed a project and the Republic Act 10644 or “Go Negosyo
Act” mandates the establishment of Negosyo Centers in all
provinces, cities and municipalities nationwide. The Negosyo
Center promotes ease of doing business and facilitates access to
services for MSMEs which include business registration
assistance, business advisory, business information and
advocacy, among others.
 The DTI has launched five (5) Negosyo Centers in: Cagayan de
Oro City; Iloilo City; Camarines Norte; Albay; and Kalibo. Three
more are expected to be launched this year in General Santos
City, Quezon City, and Batangas City. The DTI aims to establish a
total of 100 Negosyo Centers in 2015.
 (These places is where most of the unemployed peoples are)
 Unfortunately, this doesn’t last long because of the High budget
needed to run the program
 The most recent ones are the tools used in farming .Rice is a
common food for Filipinos and also we experience shortage a
lot. The government together with some S&T enthusiast
provided machines to accompany our local farmers. These
machines are making the jobs of our local farmers easier and
more comfortable.
 LABOY TILLER
 Portable. Lightweight and can be easily transported.
 Simple design. Utilizes parts that could be easily bought in
local stores
 Efficient. Works well even in fields with soft, deep, or very
deep mud (“laboy” soil) and long stubbles.
 Fast. With an average capacity of 1ha/day in deep muddy
field
 RIDE-ON ATTACHMENT FOR
HANDTRACTOR
 Can attach to any hand
tractor model
 Easy and comfortable to
operate; operator heart rate
reduced by 10 pulse
beats/min
 Increased utilization of hand
tractor
 For plowing and harrow-
leveling while riding
 Final harrowing and leveling
done simultaneously
PLASTIC DRUMSEEDER

 Simple and low cost

 Portable and lightweight
 Versatile, can be used for
other crops
 Can be used both for upland
and wetland seeding
 Rice grains seeded in straight
rows, allowing mechanical
weeding between rows
 Reduces seeding rate (20,
40, 60 kg/ha)
 Saves on labor
SEED CLEANER

 High capacity. Up to 1.5

tons/hour for final cleaning
after drying
 Low grain loss. Less than 1%
cleaning loss
 Easy to operate. Minimum
adjustments needed for
operation.
 Simple design. Locally
manufactured using locally-
available materials.
 Highly mobile. Fitted with
pneumatic wheels for towing
and transport.
SACLOB

 Prevents pest infestation

such as weevils, rats, and
birds) during storage of palay
seeds without using
chemicals
 Low seed MC are maintained
even if seeds are exposed to
high humidity conditions
during rainy season
 Improves seed viability by 6
to 12 months as compared to
the conventional open
storage.
UTILIZATION OF ICT

There is almost 100% internet coverage in

the Philippines with almost 60.1% of the
total population using it daily either from
work, school or other stuffs.

The country has only 58.83% of 4G

internet coverage which ranked 69th out
of the 77 countries with the 4G internet
usage.
Most of the users are at risk of hacking because
the internet isn't that fast, and the technology
isn't that advance compared to other countries
which may lead to identity theft and credit card
fraud.

Also, the government uses this for voting

reaching only 60% of the population which was
also prone to cheating and corruption so the
need for stronger and safer internet usage is
high.
