Importance of the Healthcare Sector
• Provides social health protection.
• Creates more employment opportunities like that of a doctor, nurse,
and much more.
• There is a better economy due to more healthy productive people.
• According to the OCED Observer, for every 10% increase in life
expectancy there is 0.4% increase in economic growth per year.
• Overall this sector allows people to have a productive life
Problems in the Healthcare Sector
• Due to the lack of technological infrastructure and adoption, there is little
to no development of the healthcare sector.
• Especially in Pakistan, due to the sheer amount of people below the
poverty line, there is a shortage of trained labour.
• There is a very high rate of school dropouts which is another reason for
the shortage of trained labour.
• Corruption is prevalent hence there is circulation of low-grade equipment
and there is a drastic reduction of healthcare quality due to this.
• These factors lead to a higher mortality rate, and the United Nations
International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has proved this.
Technology in the Healthcare Sector
• Virtual reality = It can simulate health conditions for many ailments and
doctors overall have a better understanding about a patient’s condition.
• Exoskeletons = Designed to be worn by patients to perform tasks physically
demanding for them. Reduces the risk of Musculoskeletal Disorders.
• Artificial Intelligence = Automates the work of clinicians and staff. Improves
the outcome for patients and helps healthcare providers work more efficiently.
• Chat Bots = They simulate conversations with patients. They can detect
symptoms, manage medications and assist with chronic health issues.
• EHR’s = An electronic version of a patient’s medical history and moving from
paper records to Electronic Health Records lowers healthcare costs
substantially.
Technological Advancements in Other Sectors

• In Agriculture, High Yielding Seeds that are more mature, resistant to

diseases and more likely to produce more yields, have been developed.
• For Industrial Development, labour in factories is more automated with
much better machinery hence, humans don’t have to do much of the hard
work anymore.
• For Transport, more efficient fuels are being discovered and better modes
of tranport like solar powered cars and other electric vehicles are being
manufactured.

Our life has been affected in every aspect due to rapid technological
advancements and our lives have been changed for the better.
