HAIKU

• Haiku is both a type of poetic pattern and a


way of experiencing world.
• This short, 17-syllable form usually written
in three lines with a 5-7-5 syllable count,
focuses our attention on a single, insightful
moment.
HAIKU
• Haiku traditionally contains a kigo (defined word or
phrases that symbolizes or implies the season of the
poem.
• Kigo are often in the form of metonyms ad hence can
be difficult for those who lack Japanese cultural
reference to spot.
• Matsou Basho is the Japan’s greatest haiku poet,
believed that real poetry was leading a beautiful life with
nature.
