Formula for Telling the Time in Chinese
When you say the time in English, you start with “it’s”. For instance, “It’s ten past
nine” to say 09.10 am/pm.
However, when you say the time in Chinese, you’ll follow a different formula:
The verb “is” 是 (shì) in 现在是 (Xiànzài shì) is totally optional and often omitted
in spoken Chinese. It’s fine to start with just 现在 (Xiànzài) followed directly by the
time.
Formula for Telling the Time in Chinese
To express time in Chinese specifically in hours, minutes, and seconds, you can use the following
formula:
点 分 秒
diǎn + fēn + miǎo
jam menit detik
Examples:
现在 上午 九点 二十四分 三十七秒 (Xiànzài Shàng wǔ jiǔ diǎn Èrshísì fēn Sānshíqī miǎo) = 09:24:37”
21:24:37”
15:30
02 : 45
16:00
21:20
09:15
04:02
23:30
