Case Study
● Discusses about the barriers and gateways to communication. Not necessarily in
business but in a focus of psychotherapy.
● One main obstacle in communication is the people’s tendency in evaluate.
● The solution is to listen with understanding so that they could alleviate their
evaluative impulses and improve communication
● Other barriers are due to differences in background, experience, and motivation.
● Potentials for problems seems especially heightened in the context of a boss-
subordinate relationship..
Communication
Is usually defined as the transmission of
information. It may also refer to the message
communicated through such transmissions or the
field of inquiry studying them
Work specialization
According to management textbook by daft it is defined as the degree to which organizational tasks as Work
specialization,

Work specialization is the extent to which tasks within the organizations have been subdivided into separate jobs
(Adeyoyin et al., 2015)

It is one of the organization design elements and entails breaking down tasks to the lowest level and designing
jobs for each segment (Lunenburg, 2012).

Specialization enables employees to focus on specific task hence allowing them to build expertise and
experience, therefore enhancing production efficiency. It also allows employees to concentrate on their areas of
strength thus leading to greater productivity (Adeyoyin et al., 2015)

Therefore could be concluded work specialization or division of labor is defined as divisional task that
separating job desk in order to enhancing efficiency and leading to greater productivity.
Communicating in organization
In Organization there are two types of communication :

Vertical dimension :

Communication to the top

Communication downward

Horizontal dimension

Communication between the same level of department or communication between person in a department

Obstacle of communication :

Barrier: The tendency to evaluate
The affirmation of your interlocutor leads to a judgement on
your part which is dangerous since it can lead to a conflict

when a subject is close to our heart and involves our emotions.

Gateway: Listening with understanding

The challenge here is to listen with kindness and understanding. It is


about putting aside all our preconceived ideas

it is necessary to understand the source of the evils and to work to


solve its problems. In a company, this allows employees to feel
comfortable and it reinforces the feeling of belonging.
