Lok Adalat (LA) is an innovative mechanism for alternate dispute resolution

Legal Services Authority Act and amendment in 2002 further established

• While the number of LAs organised each year have reduced, but the
average number of cases disposed by LAs has gone up.

• Between 2016 to 2020, Lok Adalats organized across the country have
disposed more than 50 lakh cases.

• Even 222nd Law Commission’s Report have considered Lok Adalats to be


viable, economic and effective.
