This document discusses semiconductor physics and band structure in solids. It explains that the energy levels of isolated atoms broaden into energy bands when atoms come together to form solids. Specifically, it describes the valence band, forbidden band or energy gap, and conduction band as the important energy bands in solids. It also provides brief definitions of fermions and bosons, noting that fermions cannot occupy the same quantum state while bosons are not restricted in this way.

Energy Bands in Solids
following are the important energy bands in the
solids. Valence Band Forbidden Band or Energy Gap Conduction Band Fermions: In Particle Physics Fermion is a particle that follows the Fermi - Dirac Statistics. Two or more identical fermions (particles with half integral spin) can not occupy the same quantum state. e.g. Electron, Proton, Neutrons Bosons: In quantum mechanics a Boson is a particle which follows the Bose - Einstein’s statistics. An important characteristic of Boson is that, their statistics do not restrict the number of the number of bosons that occupy the same quantum state. Examples of Bosons are Photons, Glueons, Higgs Boson
