This document discusses the assessment and optimization of the grinding circuit at the North Mara Gold Mine in Tanzania. The objectives were to evaluate the existing circuit, determine particle size distributions, simulate and optimize the circuit. Samples were taken from various points and analyzed. The simulations showed that increasing the spigot and vortex diameters, decreasing the % solids, and changing the trommel screen size could improve the final product size from 140 microns to 106 microns. In conclusion, modifying several operating parameters was found to feasibly optimize the grinding circuit's performance.

Department of Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering 20 19 Recommendation
- Use of trommel size of 12 mm, cyclone %-solid of
67.5 %, spigot and Vortex finder diameter of 130 mm and 200 mm respectively, could improve the final product size to 106 µm. - Further studies on the influence of two classification stages should be observed - Further study on the two mill configuration should be addressed University of Dar es Salaam Department of Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering 20
