What is Social Learning
Theory
Social learning shows that learning is a
cognitive process. It takes place in a social
context and happens only through observation
or direct instruction.
What is Observational Learning

Observational learning describes the process

of learning by watching others, retaining the
information, and then later replicating the
behaviors that were observed.
3 Core Concepts at the heart of Social
Learning Theory
1. People can learn through observation

3 Basic Models of Observational

Learning
1. A live model
2. A symbolic model
3. A verbal instructional model

2. A Symbolic Model
3. A Verbal Instructional Model
2. MENTAL STATE ARE IMPORTANT TO LEARNING

Reinforcement does not always come from

outside sources. Your own mental state and
motivation play an important role in
determining whether a behavior is learned or
not.
3. LEARNING DOES NOT NECESSARY LEADS TO A NEW BEHAVIOR

People can learn new information without

demonstrating new behaviors.
WHY NOT ALL OBSERVED BEHAVIORS ARE EFFECTIVELY LEARNED?

Factors involving both the model and the

learner can play a role in whether social
learning is successful. Certain requirements
and steps must also be followed.
