    What is the environment?

    DEFINITION
    It’s the set of external physical, biological, and chemical conditions that allow
    the existence of life on the Planet Earth
    One of the main factors that allows the existence of life on Earth – ozone layer
    What is the ozone layer?
    DEFINITION
    Gaseous layer about 3mm thick composed of ozone (O3), located in the
    stratosphere, at a distance between 20km and 35km from the surface of the Earth.
    FUNCTION
    Prevent 95% of the ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun from reaching the earth's
    surface – ozone is the only gas capable of filtering UV-B and UV-C rays .
    ULTRAVIOLET RAYS CAUSE:
    - Global warming, since they increase heat retention
    - Development of skin cancer
    - Low performance of the imune system
    - Vision damage
    What can we do to help the ozone layer and the environment ?
    The emission of chlorofluorocarbons gases (CFCs), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitric oxide (NO), and
    nitrous oxide (N2O), can degrade the ozone layer.
    The UN predicts that the ozone layer will regenerate almost all over the world by 2040, at the North
    Pole by 2045, and at the South Pole by 2066.

    Montreal Protocol - eradicate 99% of chemicals harmful to the ozone layer

    What can we do to help ?


    - remove refrigerant from refrigerators, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers before throwing them away
    - use public transport more often
    - use reusable products
