• Men – 2kg or 4.4 lbs


• Women – 1kg or 2.2 lbs
• Dimension for men is 8.6 inches (22cm) in
diameter and 1.75 inches thick at its centre.
• Women dimension is 7.67 inches (18cm) in
diameter and 1.56 inches thick at the centre.

• 1. Support the discus with your non-throwing
had.
• 2. Place your throwing hand flat over the discus
• 3. Spread your fingers
• 4. Bend the first joints of your fingers over the
edge of the discus
• 5. Keep your palm against the flat side of the
discus
Holding the discus
How do you throw the discus?
• Hold the discus properly
• Stand with your feet apart
• Face the opposite of the direction in which you want to throw.
• Put your weight on your back foot
• Bend you knees
• Pivot on the balls of your feet
• Rotate your hip forward
• Swing your throwing hand forward quickly from a low point to
a high point
• Release the discus at the highest point.
• Follow through with rotation
