We ask you to enlighten our minds and warm our hearts to be

able to understand our lessons very well and make us feel that
our work in school is exciting and enjoyable.

Forgive us of our misconduct and teach us to be true, respectful

and obedient like your son.

Drive away all evils around us and protect us from harm

Abstraction
Light Bulb
Light bulb (lamp) is a device used to convert electricity
into light, consisting of a source of illumination (e.g. an
electric filament or one or more LEDs) enclosed within a
transparent or translucent shell, typically having a
rounded shape and designed to be fitted into a socket
in a lamp.
Uses of light bulbs
• It is used in portable lighting such as table lamps.
• It is used in vehicle lights and car headlights.
• It is used in household and commercial lighting.
• It is used in decorative and advertising lighting.
Types of light bulbs
• Incandescent bulb - is a source of electric light that
works by incandescence, which is the emission of light
caused by heating the filament.

• Halogen Bulb - is a type of incandescent lamp which

uses a halogen gas in order to increase both light
output and rated life.
Types of light bulbs
• LED light bulbs or lamps utilize light-emitting diodes in
order to produce light.

• HID, or high-intensity discharge light bulbs and lamps,

are a family of gas-discharge arc lamps which create
light by sending an electrical discharge between two
electrodes and through a plasma, or ionized gas.
Types of light bulbs
• Fluorescent lamp, or fluorescent tube - is a low-
pressure mercury-vapor gas-discharge lamp that uses
fluorescence to produce visible light. Fluorescence is
the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed
light and other electromagnetic radiation.

• Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb or lamp - is a
type of fluorescent lamp generally designed as a
replacement for incandescent or halogen lamps.
Application
Directions: Pictures below show the types of light bulb.
Explain how and why these bulbs are used in particular
places.

Generalization
Safety and Precautions
• Electronic bulbs must be handled carefully since they can break very
easily.
• The breakable parts of the bulb are extremely sharp and can
puncture the skin if touched.
• Since the bulb contains chemicals like argon and mercury, handling
should be done carefully. Mercury is toxic to the human body.
• When the bulb breaks, the mercury inside escapes as vapor or fine
droplets and can settle on nearby objects. Inhaling mercury is
hazardous.
• Proper disposal of the bulbs should be ensured.
Evaluation
Directions: Identify if what is being asked of
defined by the following.
1.

• What type of light bulb that works by

incandescence?
