SEARCH FOR

THE SPELLING
BEE MASTER

2023
PARTICIPANTS
• Participants should be a bonafide resident of the
Municipality of Aritao and is currently enrolled
in any of the public or private educational
institution in Aritao.

• For ELEMENTARY LEVEL, participants should be


an officially enrolled of Grade 4, 5 or 6 learner.
Each school shall have 5 participants taken from
any of the grade level mentioned.

• For SECONDARY LEVEL, participants should be


an officially enrolled of Grade 7 or 8 learner.
Each school shall have 10 participants taken
from any of the grade level mentioned.
MECHANICS
• The Spelling Bee participants will be using a
"show-me board” for the ELIMINATION ROUND
and AKELLAH and THE BEE FORMAT for the FINAL
ROUND. A single mistake disqualifies the
participants from moving on to the next round.

• The elimination round aims to select the best


last
30 participants who will proceed to the
final round.

• Only the top 4 spellers will be awarded as First


Place, Second Place, Third Place and Fourth
Place respectively.
MECHANICS
• Words will be taken from the modules and other
learning materials of the learners in Key Stage 2
(Elementary) and Key Stage 3 (Secondary).

• As an additional reference, words can be taken


from the M erriam-W ebster D ictionary.

• During the final round, spelling will be done orally


like the method of the Akeelah and the Bee movie.
Spellers are required to follow the PSP Rule
(Pronounce– Spell– Pronounce) in spelling the word.
Failure to follow the said rule will lead to the
invalidation of the speller’s answer. Students will
have different words to spell.
MECHANICS
• The sequence of the spellers order to spell will
be through draw lots. Upon registration,
coaches
/ spellers will be asked to draw their number
and shall serve as their sequence number.

• A buzzer will be rang if the speller misspelled


the word and will signal the speller’s end of
participation in the spelling bee.

• The words will be pronounced twice using the


Standard American English pronunciation. After
giving the pronunciation, the spelling master will
be using it in a sentence.
MECHANICS
• Spellers are given 25 seconds to spell the word.

• Spellers may repeat spelling the words but they


cannot change the letters they already spelled
and it should be within the allotted time.

• The words are arranged from the easiest to the


most difficult.

• A technical team composed of a SPELLING


MASTER, SPELLING TABULATOR and BUZZER
OFFICER will be constituted to facilitate the
spelling bee.
MECHANICS
• Participants will bring their own boards.

• Participants will need to be in their school


uniforms during the competition.

• Coaches need to submit the registration


form/ certificate of enrollment until
February 27, 2023.
MECHANICS
• All coaches and learners will be
Certificate of Participation given a and
Recognition for the Certificate of
winners.
• Cash prizes will also be given by the
Local Government Unit (LGU ) of Aritao.

PARTICIPANTS
• Participants should be a bonafide resident of the
Municipality of Aritao and is currently enrolled in
any of the public or private educational institution
in Aritao.

• For ELEMENTARY LEVEL, participants should be


an officially enrolled Grade 4, 5 or 6 learner. Each
school shall have 1 participant taken from any of
the grade level mentioned.

• For SECONDARY LEVEL, participants should be an


officially enrolled Grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 learner
except BNIS who will have Grade 7 and 8 participants.
Each school shall have 4 participants one from
each of the grade level mentioned.
MECHANICS
• The Quiz Bee will be on a S H O W ME YOUR
ANSWER method. Participants will be using an
answer board (to be provided by the coaches).

• For ELEMENTARY, the quiz bee will be


individual while for the SECO N D ARY will be a
group quiz.

• Point System will be as follows:


EASY Round - 2 points
AVERAGE Round - 3 points
DIFFICULT Round - 5 points

• For the Easy and Average Round, MULTIPLE


CHOICE Questions will be given while for the
DIFFICULT ROUND, contestants are required to
write the answer. (wrong spelling, wrong)
MECHANICS
• There will be :

20 questions EASY
Round (10 seconds)

20 questions AVERAGE
Round (15 seconds)

20 questions DIFFICULT
Round (20 seconds)
MECHANICS
• The questions will be read twice and will be
shown in a projector through a power point
presentation.
• All coaches and learners will be
Certificate of Participation given a and
Recognition for the Certificate of
winners.
• Cash prizes will also be given by the
Local Government Unit (LGU ) of Aritao.
