REPUBLIC ACT 1425

AN ACT TO INCLUDE IN THE CURRICULA OF ALL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE


SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES COURSES ON THE LIFE, WORKS AND
WRITINGS OF JOSE RIZAL, PARTICULARLY HIS NOVELS NOLI ME TANGERE AND EL
FILIBUSTERISMO, AUTHORIZING THE PRINTING AND DISTRIBUTION THEREOF,
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
WHAT DOES THE
BILL MANDATE?
All educational institutions in the Philippines
shall offer a course on the hero's life, works, and
writings, especially Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo.
Senator Jose P. Laurel co-wrote the Rizal law,
explained that it is right that the Filipinos,
especially the youth will know about and learn to
imbide the great ideals for which the hero died.
Senator Claro M. Recto proposed that all
schools in the Philippines teach students about
the life and works of Jose Rizal. In 1956, the bill
was passed and is now known as Republic Act
1425, or Rizal Law.
- Catholic Church in the Philippines found out
about Recto’s bill, it mobilized its forces to
prevent the bill from becoming law
- Claro Recto was dubbed as a communist and
an anti- Catholic.
PROBLEM AND TRIAL

The Church still viewed Rizal’s novels as
blasphemous. The Catholic Church of 120 years
ago used the same influence in preventing the
novels to be read by Filipinos.

study of Rizal's life works, and writings.

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 229

An act prohibiting cockfighting, horse racing, and


jaialai on the thirtieth day of December of each
year and to create a committee to take charge of
the proper celebration of Rizal day in every
municipality and chartered city, and for any other
purposes.
