Learning Objectives
At the end of this lesson, the students
should be able to:
1. Performs 2. Illustrates
addition and the different
subtraction of properties of
integers using operations on
models or the set of
chips ; and integers
ADDITION OF
INTEGERS
Operations of integers can be
performed using different ways. As to
addition of integers, let’s make use of
signed tiles and the rules.
Find the sum of 3 and 2.

the numbers and use the sign of the number
with the greater absolute value.

SUBTRACTION
OF INTEGERS
SUBTRACTION RULE
To subtract two integers, add the opposite or
additive inverse of the subtrahend to the
minuend. That is, if a and b are any two
integers, then a – b = a + (-b). Then, follow the
rules for addition of integers.
1. Keep Change Change (KCC)
• Keep the 1st integer the same
• Change the subtraction sign to addition
• Change the sign of the second integer
2. Follow the rules for addition
• When the signs are the same (like sign), ADD and keep
the sign.
• When the signs are different (unlike sign), SUBTRACT
and copy the sign of the number with the greater absolute
value.
