of programs or protocols that provide
various services which other machines or
clients request to perform certain tasks.”

types of services.
• File server
• Print server
• Application server
• Mail server
• Web server
 File Server
• File server provide a central location to store
all of your business file so that multiple users
can easily work with the same documents,
spreadsheets and other data.
• This centralized storage also allows a business
to backup just one computer to be sure their
data is safe.
 Print Server
• A type of server that manages printing jobs is
called print server.
• This server routes print job to the appropriate
devices.
• It also priority the printing according to order
of request.
 Application Server
• A server specially designed to run
applications.
• Includes both hardware and software that
provide an environment for programs to run.
• Used For :
– Running web application.
– Processing data sent from another server.
– Distributing and monitoring software updates.
 Mail server

• A type of server that manages a large volume

of incoming, outgoing and internal email is
called email server.
• It remains connected to the internet.
• It may be located at any place in the world.
 Web Server

• A type of server that is used to host a website

through internet is called web server.
• The web server runs specialized software that
enables them to host web pages.
