Origins of history

 Dance does not leave behind clearly


identifiable physical artifacts such a stone
tools, hunting implements or cave paintings. It
is not possible to say when dance became part
of human culture.
Dance
 To move with measured steps, or to a musical
accompaniment ; to go through ,either alone or
in company with others, with a regulated
succession of movements,(commontly) to the
sound of music ; to trip to leap rythmically.
The elements of dance
 Dance has its own content ,vocavulary ,skills ,
and techniques ,which must be understood and
applied to be proficient in the art. The
elements of dance are the foundational
concepts and vocabulary for developing
movement skills as well as understanding
dance as an art form . All these elements are
simultaneously present in a dance or even it is
a short movement phrase.

Kind of Dance
 Two main kinds of dance exist: dance for
participation , which do not need spectators ;
and dance for presentation ,which are designed
for an audince . Dances for participation
include work dances, some forms of religious
dance ,and recreational dances such afolk
dances and popular , or social, dances.
Dance and Society
 The physical and psychological effects of
dance enable it to serve many fuctions. It may
be a form of workship , a means of honoring
ancestors , a way of propitiating the gods, or a
method to effect magic.
Types of Dance Style
International Standard Ballroom
Dances
 Ballroom dance :ballroom dancing is one of
the most entertaining and elite styles of
dancing.
 Tango :it defenitly does take two tango and
this dance also belongs to the american style
category.
 Waltz: the waltz is danced to melodic ,slow
music and is an equally beautiful dance form.
 Foxtrot: foxtrot ,as a dance style ,gives a
dancer flexsibility to combine slow and fast
dance steps together.
 Viennese waltz: this style of ballroom dance is
based on the original form of the waltz.
 Quikstep: this style belongs to international
style of ballroom dancing which originated in
the 1920s.
 Cha-cha-cha: the cha-cha-cha simply called
the cha-cha is a type of Latin-American dance
which is very rhytmitic in its appeal.
 Rumba: this sensual dance based on slow hip
movement.

 Samba: this beautiful and energetic dance also


has many forms.

 Jive: this is yet another lively form of ballroom


dance .
 Pasco Doble: this lively dance also an
International Latin dance style with less
emphasis on hip movement.
American Style Dances
 Bolero: this type of dance style is basically
slow or originated in spain.

 Mambo: mambo is a latin dance that makes the


use of many steps which are considered
complex in origin.
 East Coast Swing:this type of partner dance is
based on the lindy hihop.

 Style of Ballroom Dances Worldwide :


 Salsal: salsa has its base in areas of
cuba,puerto rico ,and latin america.
 Merengue: this type of dance reqiures the
partner to be together in a close position.
 Bachata: This is a romantic style of dance that
finds its origin in the Dominican Republic.
