THREE FORMS OF
SOCIAL INFLUENCE
●CONFORMITY
●COMPLIANCE
●OBEDIENCE
SLIDESMANIA
CONFORMITY
- An individual is influenced to adjust or change his/her
behaviour, attitudes, feelings, and/or beliefs in order to "fit
in" or to "belong" to a group.
- This is generally regarded as passive form of influence
since there may be no active attempt by the members of the
group to influence others.
- A person adjusts or changes behaviours merely by
observing and perhaps imitating the behaviours of the group
• Adolescents are more prone to conformity for they
normally desire to belong to peer groups and seek
approval and friendship to others.
SLIDESMANIA
COMPLIANCE
- Often referred to as an active form of social
influence.
- The person does what the other explicitly or
implicitly asks him/her to do, though he/she
remains to have an option whether or not to
comply.
• Adolescents are prone to comply with the
demands of the members of the group with
which they want to have a sense of
SLIDESMANIA
belongingness.
OBEDIENCE
- Abiding by the direct orders of
someone who is regarded as an
authority figure.
- The person obeying: The mandates
of the other seems to have no choice
but to obey.
