This document provides 8 steps for upgrading the NX-OS software on a Cisco Nexus switch: 1) Take console access of the switch, 2) Log in, 3) Download the new NX-OS version from Cisco's website, 4) Copy the file to a USB drive and insert into the switch, 5) Verify the file is visible using the dir command, 6) Copy the file from the USB to the switch's bootflash using the copy command, 7) Optionally verify image compatibility, and 8) Run the install command to start the upgrade process.

Step 2: Login to the switch Step 3: Download the nx-os from cisco website Step 4: Copy the file to the usb-drive.Insert the usb-drive in switch, you will see log message on terminal. Step 5: Type the command <dir usb1:> Step 6: Type the command <copy usb1: bootflash:> Step 7: Type the <show install all impact nxos <name_x0002_of-nxos-image.bin>> The step 7 is optional it is basically used to verify the image file for compatibility. Step 8: Type the command <install all nxos bootflash:name of nx-os.bin> In between switch will prompt type yes and enter, then upgrade will finish. You will see a message “switch will reboot after this with new OS.” Once switch reloads, type show version and verify the upgrade.
