Step 18: Making the Leaves

Once you are done making the rose it is time to add the final touches and add leafs.
To makes the leaves you have to cut out the stencil and then trace it onto a piece of
sheet metal. Also, instead of getting another piece of sheet metal you should be able
to make the leaves out of the scraps the were left when you cut out the star. Once
you have traced out the shape you can now cut the leaves out and start to design the
on the leaves like the pedals. These steps with require you to use hear protection,
eye protection, and safety gloves as well. Also, make sure that you use vice grips to
hold onto the leaves as they are small and will prevent you from hurting you fingers.
Step 19: Sand Blasting
Once you have completed all of the steps and you have all of you different parts
completed you can not sand blast. When you are going to sandblast make sure to
wear hearing protection. Then when you are going to sandblast make sure to use
vice grips to hold onto you product that you are sandblasting. This machine will
remove any coating that was applied to the object when it came out of the
manufacturing facility. To use the machine you first open the side gate and place
you products near the gloves. Once that is done you then turn on the switch and use
the foot pedal to allow the sand to flow through the gun. Then when you are
sandblasting make sure to move side to side and spray your product at an angle as it
is more effective.
Step 20: Welding the Leaves
Now that you have sand blasted the only thing left to do is
weld on your leaves. Before welding make sure you have
the teacher’s permission to do so. Then make sure to use
pliers or vice grips to hold onto the leaves while you are
welding then to the stem. This will prevent you from getting
burnt as your hands will be away from the heat and flame.
At the end once you are done don’t forget to tape your
name to the stem and turn off the gas tanks.
