THE LOVE

CONNECTION:
God’s Love and
Our Response
What is love?
Why should I love
God?
How should I show my
love to God?
I. What is love?
1 Cor 13:4-7

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not
self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres.
John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life
for one’s friends.
I. What Love is a selfless and sacrificial
commitment for the good of others,
is love? even unto death.
Five different ways the Bible speaks of the love of God

1. The peculiar love of the Father for the Son, and of the Son for the
Father.
2. God’s providential love over all that he has made.
3. God’s salvific stance toward his fallen world.
4. God’s particular, effective, selecting love toward his elect.
5. God’s love is sometimes said to be directed toward his own people
in a provisional or conditional way —conditioned, that is, on
obedience.
