Information about the World's biggest grape
• The largest bunch of grapes is 10.12 kg (22.31 lbs) and
was achieved by Sebastian Gomez Falcon and
Delegacion de Agricultura del Ayuntamiento de Los
Palacios y Villafranca (both Spain) in Los Palacios y
Villafranca, Spain, as verified on 4 August 2018.
Sebastian uses the brand Riger as organic fertiliser on
his estate. Then in Spring, when the vines of the Red
globe variety began to flourish, Sebastian used the
organic fertiliser Ferm o Feed.
• The grapes were presented and weighed at a local
agricultural competition before the viticulturists
decided to apply for the Guinness World Records title.
• The previous record of 9.4 kg (20.72 lbs) was set in
Chile and has stood since 1984!

The cultivation of grapes
• Grapes are cultivated within thousands of
years, grapes began as a trade in the Middle
East in areas including Israel, Cyprus, Egypt,
Iran and Turkey, to mention a few. Another
fun fact: According to the Food and
Agricultural Organisation, the world uses 70
percent of the grapes that was grown to
produce wine. And while about 10,000 kinds
of grapes exist in the Vitayea family, only
about 1,300 of them are put to use in the
summer. But even if you don’t like fruits, it
doesn’t stop them from being a delicious and
healthy alternative with infinite potential.

1)Grapes are actually berries
• According to Dictionary.com, the word “berry” originally meant “grape” in terms of Old
English. Nowadays, a grape is still clearly distinguished as a type of berry in botanical
terms. Each fruit comes from a single flower on the grapevine.

• Despite there being many types of grapes that currently exist in the world, the main types
are American and European.

• Grapes come in many different colours for example: green,red,black,yellow,pink and
purple.

4)Grapes have been on the planet for 65 million years!
• According to a scientific review published in the journal Trends in Genetics states that most modern
day researchers believe that grapes are in fact at at least 65 million years old. Some of today’s grape
varieties have direct roots to some of these ancient grapes.
5)People have been cultivating grapes for 8,000 years
• In the previously mentioned review, it also stated that the oldest known cultivation of grapes by
modern day society occurred around 8,000 years ago in Georgia. From there, grape cultivation
flourished rapidly in Europe and the Romans began to call different types of grapes by different
names.
6)Too many grapes on a vine leads to bad quality fruit
• Better Homes and Gardens has found out information that if there are too many grapes on a vine,
which can lower the quality of the fruit. Depending on the type of grape, each cluster may have
between 15 and 300 singular berries. If you wish to pursue the growth of grapes then it’s a good idea
to trim away flowers or clusters of grapes that don’t look as healthy as they really should in fact be.

7)People are eating more grapes nowadays
• The Agricultural Marketing Resource Center reports that people are eating more grapes now than
they did several decades ago. In 1970, a single person consumed 2.9 pounds of grapes each year. By
the year of 2009, the yearly consumption of grapes has increased to 7.9 pounds per person.

8)The world’s most widely grown grape


• Forbes has stated that the most widely grown grape variety in the globe is the Kyoho, a type of table
grape that is grown in China. These grapes are similar to Concord grapes and are usually served
peeled. The most popular type of wine grape in the world is Cabarnet Sauvignon.

9)Grapes have lots of uses


• Making wine and eating grapes while they’re fresh aren’t the only possible uses of grapes. You can
also create grape juice,jelly or jam and drying grapes is used to create raisins. People also use the
extracts from grape seeds for the purpose of medicinal practice.

10)Someone once ate 205 grapes in three minutes
• According to the famously known Guinness Book of World Records,
Dinesh Shivnath Upadhyaya from India holds the world record for
consuming the most grapes ever in the time span of only three
minutes. The man ate 205 grapes during those short three minutes
and he also had to pick up each grape singularly in order to do so.
