INTRODUCTION:
It is necessary to understand the basic
methods of interpersonal communication and be
able to explain how it works and apply it to various
communication situations.
This lesson will also explain to us the different
functions of communication which is very important in
every organization and its basic goals.
Part 2
Methods of interpersonal communication

1) Verbal communication is a face-to-face


conversation, group discussion and other
circumstance in which the spoken word is used
to express meaning.

2) Written communication includes memos,
letters and emails.
Methods of interpersonal communication
3) Nonverbal communication takes place
through facial expressions, body movements,
eye contact and other physical gesture.
Functions of communication:

a) Information function provides information needed


in decision making.
b) Motivation function is used to encourage
commitment to organizational objectives.
c) Control function is a communication that
clarifies duties, authority and responsibility.
d) Emotive function is a communication that permits
the expression of feeling and the satisfaction of
social needs.
Goals of effective communication

1) To gain goodwill
2) To inquire
3) To inform
4) To persuade
SUMMARY:
Communication is the transfer of information and
understanding from one person to another person.
Interpersonal communication may be verbal, written
and nonverbal.
Communication serves four major functions within a
group or organization – the information, motivation,
control and emotive.
Effective communication is a way to achieve certain
goals, which consist of gaining goodwill, inquiring,
informing and persuading.
