Time to get ready!


What is an Endorsement?
A related series of courses that are grouped together by interest or skill
set

Provides students with in-depth knowledge of a subject area

Endorsements are determined by curriculum requirements

GISD offers five areas of Endorsement at each high school

It is possible to change Endorsements through your Sophomore year


Courses directly related to:

● World Languages
● Social Studies
● English Literature
● History
● Fine Arts
Sample Careers Under Arts & Humanities
• Art (illustrator, designer, artist)

• Dance (dancer, choreographer, stage director)

• Music (singer, composer, musician)

• Theatre (actor, casting director, cinematographer)

• Languages other than English (translator, educator, international relations)

• Social Studies (economist, historian, educator, political activist)

• English (educator, writer, journalist)

Sample Careers Under Business & Industry
• Agriculture, Food, Natural Resources (farmer, nutritionist, botanist)
• Architecture and Construction (architect, construction management, builder)
• Arts, A/V Tech and Communications (video web producer, graphic designer, television
or radio broadcaster)
• Business Management and Administration (business owner, sales manager, CEO)
• Finance (banker, loan officer, financial advisor)
• Hospitality and Tourism (culinary, hotel manager, tour guide, travel agent)
• Information Technology (computer programmer, software developer, desktop
publisher)
• Marketing (advertising, product development, sales)
• Manufacturing (precision machinist, automation technician, operations management)
• Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (pilot, mechanic, shipping and receiving)
• Advanced Journalism/Newspaper ( journalist, reporter, blogger)

If you were accepted to P-TECH please use this chart to declare
endorsement.
Options
An option specifies the path that you want to pursue through your
Endorsement.

You will first select your Endorsement and then determine your Option
based upon what you want your career to be. If you don’t see your future
career as an Option, choose the most closely related Option.

For example: If your chosen Endorsement is Business and Industry, your


option could be Marketing.

DON’T WORRY!!!! You will be able to change your Endorsement and/or


Option in High School if you choose a path you don’t want to pursue.

Entering Endorsement and Option into Skyward - This
is the step to make your choice official!! You MUST
complete this step!!

Step 1 : Student Declares Endorsement and Option in Skyward


**You will need to log in to your desktop version of Skyward Student
Access (this means on Chromebook or computer) and click the
Endorsement tab on the left.

**Under the Endorsement section you will click on the Declare an


Endorsement link.
** You will click the Endorsement/Option dropdown and choose an
Endorsement and an Option from the list.
** You will check the “I Agree” box and then the Save button.
Step 2 : Parent signs the declared Endorsement in their Skyward Family
Access account (parent account).

** Parent logs into the desktop version of Skyward Family Access. If a


parent has multiple children in the district use the All Students dropdown
to select the appropriate student.

** Parents will click on the Endorsement tab on the left for the child they
are signing for.
** On the Endorsements screen, parents will see their child’s declared
Endorsement. They will click on “Sign”.

** On the Signature Required screen, parent will check the “I Agree” box
and then the Submit Signature button.

** On the Endorsements screen, parents will see the green confirmation of


signature.
