Techniques In Communicating In An
Organization
Types of Flow of the messages: Downward
Communication, Upward Communication and
Horizontal Communication.
Downward Communication - messages that are to
instruct, inform, provide feedback and motivate
subordinates which comes from the authorities.
Techniques: letters, telephones, meeting, handbook,
manuals and newsletters.
Upward Communication – messages that
comes from the persons with lower positions
which aimed to inform on work progress,
problems encountered, suggestions for
improving output, personal feelings for work,
and non-work. Activities
Techniques: formal grievances procedure,
employee attitude and opinion surveys,
suggestion systems, open-door policy,
informal gripe session, task forces and exit
interviews.
Horizontal Communication – messages sent to individual or group of the
same level of positions for the purpose of coordination, persuade, or to pass
information.
Techniques: memos, meetings, telephones, and some type of social affairs.
Management Information System (MIS)
According to Boone and Kurtz MIS is an organized method of providing
information to be used in decision making.

established to;
1. A basis for analysis
2. To automate routine clerical operations
3. Assist managers in making routine decisions
4. To provide information in making strategic or non-programmed decisions
