LET US LISTEN!!
What are some of the community and
environmental health problems and Issues.

The community and environmental health

problems we are comforted with are usually
man made or caused by humans.
What are some of the community and
environmental health problems and Issues.

1.Improper waist
disposal 3.Diseas Control
2. Pollution 4.Drug Abuse,
Air Pollution Prevention and Control
Water Pollution 5. Peace and Order
Land Pollution
1. IMPROPER WAIST DISPOSAL

Wait improperly
disposed of
contaminates the
soil, air and water.
This brings risks to
humans, animals
and plants.
Effects of improper wait disposal
1. People who live near or within
dumpsites are susceptible to various
disease.
2.Leachate from solid waste can
contaminate groundwater tables and
surface waters.
3.Insects and pests in open dumpsites
are disease vectors.
Effects of improper wait disposal
1.Methane gases from dumpsites can
affect the health of exposed
pollutions.
2.Methane gases can contribute to
global warming
3.Result to increased flooding
4.Destruction of infrastructures due to
clogged waterways.
How can we do to solve or eradicate
this problem.
According to the (Department of
Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR), in 2015 report,
The main source of municipal solid
waste in the Philippines comes from
residential
52% Biodegradable

Refers to the ability of things to

get disintegrated (decomposed)
by the action of micro-organisms
such as bacteria or fungi
biological (with or without
oxygen) while getting assimilated
into the natural environment
28% Recyclable
Material that has been recovered or diverted from the
non- hazardous solid waste stream for purpose of
reuse, recycling or reclamation and a substantial.
portion of which is consistently used in the manufacture
of products, which may otherwise be. produced using
raw or virgin materials
How can we do to solve or
eradicate this problem.
Observe proper Segregation
Observe the 3Rs-Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle
Limit or Avoid using non-
biodegradable materials.
2. Pollution
 is an adverse effect
bin the environment
brought about by
pollutions.
Is a harmful
substance, compound,
or energy.
A. Air Pollution
Refers to the
contamination of the air
that occurs when harmful
gases, dust and smoke
are mixed with the air in
the atmosphere making it
dangerous to living
things.
Causes of Air Pollution.
Fuel Emission such as the emission from
vehicles.
Improper waste disposal/burning garbage
Exhaust of Factories and Industries
Household Products like paint, insect spray
and others
Agricultural activities such as spraying of
pesticides on plants.
Effects of Air Pollution to human
Health
Respiratory and Heart Problems

World Health Organization (WHO)

Air pollution is now the world
largest environmental health risk.
B. Water Pollution
 Refers to the
contamination of
bodies of water. And
this is the second
environmental
pollution concern of
the worlds today.
Causes of Water Pollution.
Inadequately treated domestic
wastewater or sewage.
Agricultural Wastewater
Industrial wastewater
Effects of Water Pollution to human
Health
 Consumption of polluted water
can cause diseased and bring
danger to human

C. Land Pollution
Is the
contamination of
the land or soil by
deposition of solid
and liquid waste
materials.
Causes of Land Pollution.
Wastes improperly
Use of toxic fertilizer
Deforestation and Soil Erosion
2. Disease Control
The reduction of disease incidence,
prevalence, morbidity or mortality
to a locally acceptable level as a
result of deliberate efforts;
continued intervention measures are
required to maintain the reduction.
Example: diarrheal diseases.
3. Drug Abuse, prevention and Control

Drug Abuse-The habitual taking of addictive or illegal drugs.

 Its greatly affects the Physical, mental, Social and Emotional
Health.

Substance abuse prevention, also known as drug abuse

prevention, is a process that attempts to prevent the onset
of substance use or limit the development of problems
associated with using psychoactive substances.
