Piaget's Cognitive Development Theory

Piaget's theory of cognitive development suggest that children move

through four different stages of learning. This theory focuses not only
understanding how children acquire knowledge but also an
understanding the nature of intelligence.
4 STAGES OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

 Sensorimotor Stage : ( birth to 2 years )

 Preoperational Stage : ( 2 to 7 years)

 Concrete Operational Stage : (7 to 11 years)

 Formal Operational Stage : ( Age 12 and up )

Sensorimotor Stage: (Birth to 2 years)
 First stage of development.
 Children know the world primarily through their senses and
movements.

Preoperational Stage:( Ages 2 to 7 years)

 Second stage of development.
 It is characterized by the development of language and
emergence of symbolic play.
Concrete Operational Stage: ( Ages 7 to 11 years)
 Third stage of development.
 Logical thought emerges, but children still struggle with abstract
and theoretical thinking.

Formal Operational Stage : (Ages 12 and up )

 Fourth and final stage of cognitive development, children
become more adept at abstract thought and deductive
reasoning.
