 Where did the name

“San Lorenzo” came from?
San Lorenzo
A coastal municipality in the island province of Guimaras. It’s a young municipality that was
created last February 20, 1995 by virtue of Republic Act 7897. San Lorenzo got its name from the
first Filipino Saint, San Lorenzo de Ruiz. A place abounds with peace loving people is blessed with
vast agricultural lands potential for farm and eco-tourism.
The municipality of San Lorenzo
is composed of 12 barangays
with an area of 10,456.0863
hectares.

The seven barangays namely

Cabano, Aguilar, Sapal, Constancia,
Tamborong, Sebario and Igcawayan
from the Municipality of Jordan.

The barangays of Gaban,

Cabungahan, M. Chavez, Suclaran
and San Enrique emanated from the
Municipality of Buenavista.

San Lorenzo has a land area of 106.23 square kilometers or 41.02 square miles
which constitutes 17.36% of Guimaras's total area. Its population as determined by
the 2020 Census was 29,444. This represented 15.67% of the total population of
Guimaras province, or 0.37% of the overall population of the Western Visayas
region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 277
inhabitants per square kilometer or 718 inhabitants per square mile..

The 54-megawatt San Lorenzo Wind Farm,

Is the first of its kind in the Visayas region
and stretches up to 14 kilometers, making it
one of the biggest wind farms in Southeast Asia.
This farm comprises 27 wind turbines that each
stand at about 123 meters tall, with each turbine
generating around 2 megawatts of power.

greenhouse gas emissions
and serve as a tourist
attraction at the same
time.
“The 54MW San Lorenzo Wind Farm does not only generate electricity for
Guimaras but also contribute to the whole Visayas grid. It is helping reduce
the greenhouse gas emissions of the region and is now a major tourism
attraction that boosts the economic activities of the island,” said Melvin
Purzuelo, coordinator for Green Forum Western Visayas, an organization that
advocates for and support environmental concerns and promote alternatives
in furtherance of sustainable development, particularly in Western Visayas.

Holy Family Hills

A perfect place for a day of

Week. Holy Family Hills at Barangay
Tamborong sits on a 52-hectare hilly
property surrounded by vegetation,
a river, mango and other trees, as
well as farm animals. Built originally
for priests who go on a pilgrimage,

retreat has life-size statues showing
scenes from the Stations of the
Cross and the Crucifixion of Christ.

Sapal Weaving Village: Weaving is a way of life

Weaving had become a way of life for village

weavers of Sapal. Locals inherited the skill of
weaving mats from their forefathers and which
had been handed down to their parents and to
them and so on.

Weaving transformed lives and realized dreams

locals expressed that the noble work of weaving

is instrumental in improving the lives of families
for the better. Sitting on the floor to show how
mats are manually weaved, 66-years old
Felicitas Gella shared how their mother was able
to send family members to school and produced
graduates from weaving mats. For them, hard
work pays off.
