DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are also known
as the Global Goals
They are 17 goals to achieve a better and more
sustainable future for all by 2030.
Adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call
to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure
peace and prosperity.
Integrated and interlinked, meaning that action in one
area will affect outcomes in others, and that no one
should be left behind.
Recognize the connections between the people and the planet.
Cover a wide range of issues, such as health, education, gender
equality, climate change, biodiversity, clean energy, and human
rights.
Buildon the previous Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),
which aimed to reduce extreme poverty and improve health,
and education by 2015.
Supported by the UN and its agencies, as well as government,
civil society, businesses, and individuals who can take action for
the SDGs.
SGDs are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-
income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.
SGDS key themes: People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace, and Partnership
Recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies
that build economic growth and address a range of social needs
including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities,
while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
Itcomprised of 169 targets, integrated and indivisible to balance the
three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social
and environmental.

Note: Countries are ranked by their overall score. The overall score measures the total progress
towards achieving all 17 SDGs. The score can be interpreted as a percentage of SDG achievement. A
score of 100 indicates that all SDGs have been achieved.
