SUSTAINABLE

DEVELOPMENT GOALS
 The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are also known
as the Global Goals
 They are 17 goals to achieve a better and more
sustainable future for all by 2030.
 Adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call
to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure
peace and prosperity.
 Integrated and interlinked, meaning that action in one
area will affect outcomes in others, and that no one
should be left behind.
 Recognize the connections between the people and the planet.
 Cover a wide range of issues, such as health, education, gender
equality, climate change, biodiversity, clean energy, and human
rights.
 Buildon the previous Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),
which aimed to reduce extreme poverty and improve health,
and education by 2015.
 Supported by the UN and its agencies, as well as government,
civil society, businesses, and individuals who can take action for
the SDGs.
 SGDs are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-
income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.
 SGDS key themes: People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace, and Partnership
 Recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies
that build economic growth and address a range of social needs
including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities,
while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
 Itcomprised of 169 targets, integrated and indivisible to balance the
three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social
and environmental.

towards achieving all 17 SDGs. The score can be interpreted as a percentage of SDG achievement. A
score of 100 indicates that all SDGs have been achieved.
