Summary of main theme and issues being highlighted in the movie

Karan Shergill (Hrithik Roshan) comes from a wealthy family and leads a very carefree
life. His father wants him to do something in life but Karan is in no hurry and hangs out
with his friends and spends time with his girl-friend Romila Dutta (Romi). Romila, on
the other hand, is very focused
Karan applies to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) along with his friends and gets
selected. Though he joins to antagonize his father, he finds it difficult to cope with strict
rules and frequent punishments and he escapes from the academy. When Romi comes
to know about this, she breaks up with him. Karan then decides to return to IMA. He
finishes his training, and receives commission in the Indian army.
He is posted in Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir. The movie then shows Karan going into an
operation to repel Pakistan army that covertly entered India, occupied mountain peaks
and attacking Indian army.
Critical Analysis of the movie

Before joining the army:

An aimless, non-serious wealthy boy
No clarity on what he wants in life, no Lakshya
Challenge by father, that he is incapable, makes him join th army training
Reality Hits: After joining the strict training, reality of a disciplined life hits
him hard and he runs away.
Another setback: Gets an emotional setback when his girlfriend leaves him,
citing his inability to complete anything in life
With this trauma, he joins back.
Now the Karan is shown to be a changed person, who works hard and
completes his training seriously
After completion of training, he calls his former girlfriend, informing of
his commissioning in the army. At this moment, there is an indication
that proving himself as a capable man in front of his girlfriend was the
main factor which pushed him to complete this training
