◦ African-American choreographer and activist who founded the Alivin Ailey Dance Theatre in New York
City. He is credited with popularizing modern dance and revolutionizing African-American participation
in 20th Century concert dance His company gained the nickname "Cultural Ambassador to the World"
because of its extensive international touring.
Early years
◦ Alivins mom ,Luna Elizabeth Ailey , 17 years old , concived and gave birth to Alivin with his dad also
named alivin , but he abandoned the family when Alivin was 6 months old.
Occurings than changed his life 
◦ When Ailey was five, his 22-year-old mother was raped by a group of white men, leaving him afraid of
whites.
