WHAT’S THE SMOKE AND WHAT IT CONTAIN?

Smoking is defined as inhalation of fumes from


the burning of plant substances, such as
marijuana, hashish and tobacco, which is the
most common, used in cigarette rolls or pipe.
Tobacco contains nicotine, which causes
stimulating and soothing psychological effects
that lead to addiction.
Kinds of Smoking Devices
Smoking is not only about cigarette rolls, there are many ways people
smoke.

1. Tobacco: This is by placing the tobacco substance directly in the mouth


or between the lower lip and gums.

2. Cigarette: Cigarette are defined as a roll made of one type of tobacco


that is tightly rolled

3. E-cigarettes: Battery-powered devices, usually containing nicotine-filled


containers, other chemicals, and flavors.

Smoking motivation

1. Family impact: If a person grows up in a family where a parent


smokes, this increases the likelihood that a person will grow up to
become a smoker.

2. Media impact: Tobacco ads in media such as in movies and series.

3. Pressure factors: Some use smoking to relieve the stress or stress


symptoms they are going through, because nicotine has a soothing
effect that gives a feeling of comfort.
Health Effects of Cigarette Smoking
Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body,
causes many diseases, and reduces the health of smokers in
general.
1. Smokers are at greater risk for heart diseases.
2. Smoking can cause lung disease by damaging the
airway.
3. Smoking can cause cancer almost anywhere in the body
4. Smoking can affect bone health
5. Smoking can increase risk of type 2 diabetes
6. Smoking may be the cause for feeling anxious, angry,
and depressing.
EFFECTIVE WAYS TO QUIT SMOKING

Quitting smoking is a difficult and time consuming. It


takes considerable willpower
and a deep commitment to achieve this goal. There
are multiple strategies for breaking the addiction to
smoking:
1. Try alternative nicotine treatments
2. Get medicine to help you quit
3. Get counseling or therapy
4. Avoid smoking incentives
5. Physical activity
Symptoms of quitting smoking
Quitting smoking is one of the best things you will ever
do for your health. Withdrawal can be challenging, but
it can help if you look at the symptoms as signs that
your body is recovering.
Common symptoms include:
1. Feeling depressed during the first period of quitting
smoking may last a month.
2. Anxiety, stress, increased emotion and
nervousness
3. Feeling headaches and dizziness,
4. Increase appetite and weight gaine
5. Feeling tired

Opinions about smoking has varied over time and from one place to
another: holy and sinful, sophisticated and bad, a cure and health risk.
In the last decade of the 20th century, smoking came to be viewed in a
negative light, all over the world.
