Lasallian Prayer

Let us bow our head and let us remember

that we are in the most holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit. Amen.
Father in heaven, Your loving kindness is ever
present to us and powerfully but gently seeks to
guide all the moments of our days.
We ask You to go before us in our journey through
life to anticipate our needs and to help us remain
faithful to you. Also send us Your Holy Spirit to
strengthen our faith so that enlightened by Your
presence
we might serve You as You deserve.
This prayer we offer to Your son Jesus. Amen

Ratio
and
Proportion
OBJECTIVES
Identify ratios that form a proportion

Solve missing number in a proprtion

Determine measures of angles of triangle
based on a given ratio
Solve propblems on ratio and proportion
Ratio And Proportion

What is a Ratio?
 A ratio is a comparison of
two positive quantities.

 Ratios can be written in

three different ways:
a is to b
a:b
𝐚 Because a ratio is a fraction,
𝐛 b can not be zero

 Ratios are expressed

in simplest form
GEAR UP: Recitation
In an evacuation center, the DSWD distributes relief packages in 32
families. Each pack contains the following items: 3 kilos of rice, 5 cans
of sardines, 10 packs of noodles, 2 kilos of sugar, 2 can of milk powder.
Express the ration of:

1. Cans of sardines per family 5 : 1 or

The ratio of
2. Packs of noodles per family 10 : 1 or female to male
- Someone famous 2 : 1 or
3. Kilos of sugar per family
presidents of the
Philippines
4. Kilos of rice per family 3 : 1 or 2 : 14 or

5. Cans of milk per family 2 : 1 or 1 : 7 or

Ratio And Proportion
What is PROPORTIONS?
- is a mathematical statement expressing between two ratios
Example:
Ratio of a family and cans of sardines 1 : 5 or
Ratio of 5 families and cans of sardines 5 : 25 or
1 : 5 = 5 : 25 or

Fundamental Law of Proportion-

The product of the means is equal to the product of the extremes.

Try This: Use proportion to complete each statement

Given

4. = ____

2. = ___ 𝒙
Recitation: Use proportion to complete each statement

Given
𝟏𝟏
7q
1. 11p = ___ 3. = __𝟕

𝟕 −𝟒
2. = ___𝒑 4. = ____𝟏𝟏
Examples #1:
Find the value of x
f. 3 : (5 – x) = 2 : x
a. 3 : 5 = 6 : x = 3x = 2(5 – x)
3x = 30 3x = 10 – 2x
x = 10 3x + 2x = 10
x3 = 8
x=2 5x = 10
b. 16 : 8 = x : 4
x=2
8x = 64
x=8 = =
= -3(x – 2) = x(2 – x)
5(x – 3) = 2(x + 4)
-3x + 6 = 2x – x2
5x – 15 = 2x + 8
x2 = 81 x2 – 3x – 2x + 6 = 0
5x – 2x = 8 + 15
x=9 x2 – 5x + 6 = 0
3x = 23
(x – 3) (x – 2) = 0
x=
x=3x=2
Example #2:
In a photograph, Cong TV is 9 cm tall, and Junnie
Boy is 10 cm tall. Cong TV’s actual height is 153
cm. what is Junnie’s actual height?
Solution:
Cong TV’s height in photograph
= Cong TV’s actual height

Junnie’s height in photograph Junnie’s actual height

9x = 1 530
9 9
x = 170 cm
Example #3:
A “barbecued – spareribs” recipe that serves
4 people needs one kilo of pork spareribs. If
you want to prepare this dish for 20 people in
a family gathering, how much pork spareribs
do you need?
Solution:

=
Number of people
Number of people

Number of kilo of pork

Number of kilo of pork

4x = 20
x = 5 kilos of pork
Example #4:
Mavi’s photos come in two sizes: 13
cm x 9 cm and 15 cm x 10 cm. Are
these dimensions proportional?
Solution:

135 130

the dimensions are not proportion

Example #5:
The measure of the three angles of a triangle
are in the ratio 2:3:4. Find the measure of each
angles.
Solution:
2x
2x + 3x + 4x = 180
9x = 180
x = 20
2x = 2(20) = 40°
3x = 3(20) = 60°
4x = 4(20) = 80° 3x 4x
Example #6:
A 50 inch segment is divided into 3 parts whose
length are expressed by the ratio 2:3:5. What is
the length of the longest part?
Solution:

2x + 3x + 5x = 50
10x = 50
x=5

5x= 5(5) =25 inch

Example #7:
The measure of the two complementary angles
are in the ratio 2 : 7. Find the measures of
each angles
Solution:

2x + 7x = 90
9x = 90
x = 10

2x = 2(10) = 20°
7x = 7(10) = 70°
Example #8:
The measure of the two supplementary angles
are in the ratio 4 : 5. Find the smaller angle.
Solution:

4x + 5x = 180
9x = 180
x = 20

4x = 4(20) = 80°
