What is pressure?
Pressure is an expression of For example
When you pinch yourself hurts
force exerted on a surface
which mean pressure is exerted
per unit area.

There are many types of pressure
But today we are going to be talking about
Air pressure

4
What is air pressure?
The air around you has weight, and it presses against
everything it touches. That is called atmospheric
pressure or air pressure. It is the force exerted on the
surface by the air above it as gravity pulls it to the
earth

An atmosphere (atm) is a unit of
measurement equal to the average air
pressure at sea level at a temperature of
15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees
Fahrenheit). One atmosphere is
1,013 millibars, or 760 millimeters
(29.92 inches) of mercury.

Did you know?
Why Do Your Ears Pop in Airplanes?
As you go up in an airplane, the atmospheric pressure becomes lower than the pressure of the air inside
your ears. Your ears pop because they are trying to equalize, or match, the pressure. The same thing
happens when the plane is on the way down and your ears have to adjust to a higher atmospheric

pressure.

Now lets see how
air pressure works
