Bureau of Corrections

• The Bureau of Corrections is an agency


of the Department of Justice which is
charged with the custody and
rehabilitation of national offenders, who
have been sentenced to three years of
imprisonment or more. The agency has
its headquarters in the New Bilibid
Prison Reservation in Muntinlupa.
• Bureau of Prisons was renamed
Bureau of Corrections under
Executive Order 292 passed during
the Aquino Administration. It states
that the head of the Bureau of
Corrections is the Director of Prisons
who is appointed by the President
of the Philippines with the
confirmation of the Commission of
Appointments.
• The Bureau of Corrections has
general supervision and control of
all national prisons or
penitentiaries. It is charged with the
safekeeping of all Insular Prisoners
confined therein or committed to
the custody of the Bureau.

• Good conduct time allowance is a
privilege granted to a prisoner
that shall entitle him to a
deduction of his term of
imprisonment.
• Under Art.97, RPC, the good
conduct of any prisoner in any
penal institution shall entitle him
to the following deduction from
the period of his sentence:
• 1. During the first two years of
his imprisonment, he shall be
allowed a deduction of 5 days
for each month of good
behavior.
• 2. During the third to the fifth
years of his imprisonment, he
shall be allowed a deduction of
8 days each month of good
behavior.
• 3. During the following years
until the tenth years of his
imprisonment, he shall be
allowed a deduction of 10 days
each month of good behavior.
• 4. During the eleventh and the
successive years of his
imprisonment, he shall be
allowed a deduction of 15 days
each month of good behavior.
