I.INTRODUCTION
In Indonesia self-medication behavior (self-medication) has a
considerable value. Self-medication behavior is characterized by
keeping medicines in the household for self-medication. Data of
35.2% shows that households have stored drugs for self-
01 medication, including over the counter drugs, hard drugs and
traditional medicines. The use of hard drugs in self-medication
indicates irrational drug use (Riskesdas, 2013).

Dysmenorrhea is a condition where there is pain and discomfort in

the abdomen from the stomach to the bottom whose pain can
02 sometimes extend to the waist and thighs (Mulyani, 2012).

Menstrual pain management is divided into two categories, namely

03 pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
II. LITERATURE REVIEW AND HYPOTHESIS DEVELOPMENT
Several studies on self-medication among students are rarely
conducted. However, because they are equipped with knowledge
and easy access to information at this time, students sometimes
overcome these health problems by means of self-medication, as
has been explained in previous research.
Research conducted by Sandra in 2015 also said that further
treatment was needed from the agencies and related parties in
order to increase the knowledge of adolescents regarding the
handling of dysmenorrhea. Therefore, a study was conducted on
the level of knowledge and behavior of self-medication for
menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) in female students of SMAN 1
Kajen-Pekalongan.
