DEFINITION
A game is a set of materials designed
for play according to prescribed rules.
Examples are puzzles, card games,
checkers, board games, etc. (AACR2R)
CHIEF SOURCE OF INFORMATION

The order of preference for the chief source of


information for the description of a game is :

1. The object itself


2. The accompanying textual material
3. The container issued by the publisher or
manufacturer of the item
AREAS AND ELEMENTS OF DESCRIPTION
In cataloguing games, only the seven (7) areas
used in describing books are used. The general
material designation [game] is optionally added
after the title proper of a game.
Examples:
The popular Chinese checker [game]
Scrabble game [game]
MAIN ENTRY
In determining the main entry of a game, follow the
same rules as used in cataloguing an art original.
SUBJECT HEADINGS

Use the following subject headings for various


games: cards, chess, checkers, puzzles, game
of the generals, etc. as appropriate for a particular
game. Otherwise, use Games as the subject
heading for non-specified games.

Do not use Games as a subject subdivision of


subject headings assigned to games.
