COMPLETE YOUR FACEBOOK GROUP
PROFILE
Each group will fill up the following data:
1. Name of the student:
2. Number of siblings:
3. Allowance in a day:
4. Religion:
5. Height (in centimeter):
6. Weight (in kilogram):
7. Final Grade in General Mathematics:
(Each group will design in a cartolina their facebook group profile using the given
data.)
1. What are the informations gathered from the members to
complete the Facebook group profile?

2. What is the unit of measurement used for each information

(if there are any)?

3. Which among the information gathered are countable?

Measurable?
Discussion

• A variable is a characteristic that is observable or

measurable in every unit of the universe.
• Variables can be broadly classified as either qualitative or
quantitative.
• And quantitative can be classified into discrete and
continuous
• Qualitative variables- variables with no natural sense of ordering.
They are therefore measured on a nominal scale.
• example: hair color (black, brown, gray, red)
gender (male, female)
citizenship (Filipino, American, Australian)

• Quantitative variables – variables measured on a numeric scale.

• Examples: height, weight, temperature, score on an exam
• Discrete variables – represent counts (e.g., number of objects in a
collection)
• Continuous variables – represents measurable amounts (e.g., water
volume, weight, height, energy)
Classify the data gathered as quantitative or
qualitative by putting the data in the correct column
of the table

Distinguish if the given data represents a quantitative or qualitative
variable. If it is quantitative variable write if it is discrete or continuous.
1. Age of mother
2. Usual number of messages in the Facebook
3. Most preferred color of ballpen
4. number of buildings in the school
5. gender of the head teachers in the school
evaluation
Identify whether the variable is qualitative or quantitative and if the
latter state whether it is discrete or continuous.
1. the number of senators present in the meeting
2. the most preferred viand of the students
3. the weight of the newborn babies for the month of June
4. the number of households with television
5. the brand of bags of the students
homework
Identify the term being described in each of the following:
1. Any activity which can be done repeatedly under similar conditions
2. The set of all possible outcomes in an experiment
3. A subset of a sample space
4. The elements in a sample space
5. The ratio of the number of favorable outcomes to the number of
possible outcomes
