 FIATA stands for Fédération Internationale des Associations de

Transitaires et Assimilés, which is French.(FIATA ,2013)
 But its full meaning in English is International Federation of Freight
Forwarders Associations.
 FIATA is a non-governmental organization founded in 1926.

 FIATA creates documents and forms for establishing a unified freight

forwarding standard across the globe.

FIATA Model Rules For Freight Forwarding Services

 Applicability

 These Rules apply when they are incorporated into a contract by

referring to the FIATA Model Rules for Freight.
 Definitions Freight Forwarding Services means services of any
kind relating to the -,

• packing or distribution

 Definitions

 Freight Forwarder means the person concluding a contract of Freight

Forwarding Services with a Customer.
 Carrier means any person actually performing the carriage
 SDR means a Special Drawing Right as defined by the International
Monetary Fund.
 Mandatory Law means any statutory law the provisions of which
cannot be departed .

 No insurance will be effected by the Freight Forwarder, except upon

express instructions given

Hindrances
 If at any time the Freight Forwarder's performance is affected by any
hindrance the Freight Forwarder may abandon the carriage of the Goods

Customer's instructions as agreed.

Exclusions, assessment, and monetary limits of liability

Exclusions The Freight Forwarder shall in no event be

liable for:
1. Valuables or Dangerous Goods unless
declared as such to the Freight Forwarder at
the time of the conclusion of the contract,
2. loss following from delay unless expressly
agreed in writing,

Assessment The value of the Goods shall be determined

according to the current commodity exchange
price

Monetary limits of liability shall not be or become liable for any loss of or
damage to the Goods in an amount exceeding the
equivalent of 2 SDR per kilogram of gross weight of
the Goods lost or damaged

The Company acts as agent of the Customer, except

(a) where it issues a transport document or electronic record evidencing its

obligation for the delivery of goods, or

(b) to the extent it physically handles goods by its own employees and
equipment

are of a dangerous, inflammable, radioactive, hazardous,without giving

 The Customer must give the Company instructions in writing to arrange

insurance on its goods a reasonable time before the tender of goods for
storage or transport.
 Notification of claims
 The Customer on its own behalf and on behalf of the owner of the goods
shall notify the Company in writing of any claim
(a) in case of loss and/or damage to goods within 7 days of the completion
of transit,
(b) in case of delay in delivery
