SWIMMING
A biologically propelled motion through a liquid medium.
It is the movement by humans and animals through water,
usually without artificial assistance.
An individual or team sport that requires the use of one's
entire body to move through water. The sport takes place
in pools or open water. Competitive swimming is one of
the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance
events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and
individual medley.

The Diver, or A Dialogue Concerning the Art of
Swimming
Covered early rescuing techniques and said that
the rescuer should not permit the victim to seize
him. Rescuers were encouraged to be able to swim
with one arm (a forerunner of pre-rescue tube
lifesaving swim strokes).

Organization
FINA
Fédération Internationale de Natation
(FINA) is the International Federation (IF)
recognized by the International Olympic
Committee (IOC) for administering
international competition in the aquatic
sports (its name translated from French is
"International Swimming Federation").
It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
FINA
FINA currently oversees competition in five aquatic
sports: swimming, diving, synchronized swimming,
water polo and open water swimming.
On July 24, 2009, Dr. Julio Maglione of Uruguay was
elected FINA President.
Was founded on July 19, 1908 in the Manchester
Hotel in London, UK at the end of the 1908 Summer
Olympics by the Belgian, British, Danish, Finnish,
Dutchish, French, German, Hungarian and Swedish
Swimming Federations.
