Badshahi Masjid

Where is it located?
They is located in Lahore, in
Pakistan. It is next to the river
Ravi and it is also very close to
the Indian border.

It also has a crucial location for


the people of Lahore because
they used to go there to pray.
Tower

Ground Plan
It is based on a central square
with a wall around it and has
1 entrance. At each corner of
the wall there is a tower. In
the middle of the square there
is a fountain. The building
has 3 domes, one of which is
slightly larger.

Measures
The religious building has the
largest indoor courtyard in the
world, with a length of 527
metres and a width of 159
metres. The height of the
towers is 62 metres.
History
The mosque was ordered by the
Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in
1671, and its construction was
supervised by the emperor's foster
brother and governor of Lahore,
Muzaffar Hussain. Aurangzeb
ordered the mosque built to
commemorate his military
campaigns against the Maratha
king Chhatrapati Shivaji. After
only two years of construction,
the mosque was inaugurated.
Description
The building is based on a large
entrance, 3 large domes and
four corner towers.

It use sandstone with insert of


white marmol.

The towers are made of red


sandstone.

It have a large sandstone paved


courtyard occupying an area of
84,000 square metres.
Personal opinion
Badshahi Masjid is a wonderful
example of Islamic architecture
and an important pilgrimage site
in Lahore, Pakistan. It is
impressive in both its size and
beauty, with stone and ceramic
detailing. It is also of great
historical significance, having
been built in the 17th century
during the Mughal Empire. It is
definitely a must-see for any
traveller interested in history and
architecture.
