o a connected medical device

o a biochip transponder

o a solar panel

o a connected automobile with sensors that alert


the driver to a myriad of possible issue

o or any object, outfitted with sensors


What is the history of the Internet of Things?
∙ The idea came from the 1980s – 1990s  the
technology was not ready
∙ The adoption of IPv6 was the most important
step for the IoT to scale.

IPv6: It makes possible for the devices to connect to


the World Wide Web with a special IP adress

∙ Kevin Ashton coined the phrase 'Internet of


Things' in 1999

well as our personal lives.
∙ More connected devices than people
∙ The IoT will transform the interaction between:

∙ But as with any new technology IoT issues do exist.


∙ Issues: acceptance, cost, connectivity, security, etc.
∙ With new technologies: IoT Innovation will continue to develop.
