● Massachusetts is coastal to the North Atlantic Ocean.
● It was founded in 1630 by John Winthrop.
● Massachusetts experienced mild, short summers and long,
cold winters.

● John Winthrop was from Edwardstone, United Kingdom.


● The natural landforms are the Connecticut River Valley,
Appalachian Mountains, Berkshire Hills, and Taconic
Mountain Range.
● Boston with a population of 667,137, Worcester with a
population of 184,815, and Springfield with a population
of 154,341 are the highest populated cities in
Massachusetts.
Religion & Economy

● The Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded by the Puritans,


a religious minority group who migrated to the New World
seeking to create a model religious community. The
Puritans believed that the Anglican Church needed to be
purified of the influences of Catholicism.
● To make a profit, Massachusetts colonist had to develop a
diverse economy. Some developed needed small industries,
working as tanners, porters, metalworkers and
shopkeepers. Most, however, looked towards the sea.
