DARK MATTER

PRESENTATION BASED ON SCIENCE MYSTERY

BY ANOUSHKA S.P
DEFINITION OF DARK MATTER
PRESENTATION TITLE

• Dark matter is refered to the hypothetical matter that scientists have not been
able to either through telescopes or technological methods.

DESCRIPTION OF DARK MATTER
PRESENTATION TITLE

• Scientists have been unable to directly observe dark matter since they do not
emit light or energy
• The universe is made up of baryonic matter.
• This consist of electrons, protons and neutrons.
• Dark matter on the other hand , could be made of both baryonic and non
baryonic matter.
• Despite many speculations regarding the existance of dark matter, no one can
clearly define what dark matter is made of.

PURPOSE
PRESENTATION TITLE

• Dark matter is the mysterious thing. Non interacting substance in the universe
its gravitational effects are necessary to explain the rotation of galaxies, the
motions of clusters, and the largest scale-structures from the universe.
• Dark matter played an important role in the formation of galaxies.
• Researchers use astronomical surveys to build maps of the location of dark
matter in the universe based on how the light from distant galaxies bends as it
travels to us.

DISCOVERY
PRESENTATION TITLE

• The problem with the dark matter hypothesis is that no body knows what form
dark matter takes when the term was first proposed back in 1933 by the swiz
American astronomer Fritz Zwicky it was possible that the extra mass was
simply clouds of hydrogen gas

CAN DARK MATTER DESTROY
PRESENTATION TITLE

ANYTHING?

• If dark matter is made up of neutralinos, then dark matter particles would be

their own antimatter particles, because anti- neutralino is simply a neutralino.
• Thus, when 2 dark matter particle collide, they can self – destruct like
anyother interaction of matter and anti-matter

WHAT HAPPENS IF DARK
PRESENTATION TITLE

MATTER TOUCHES EARTH?

• Dark matter particles can penetrate all other forms of matter, which means
that they may even be able to traverse right through our planet with out
loosing any energy.
• On the other hand, their impat with ordinary matter that earth is comprised of
may hamper them slightly, resulting in loss of energy

SUMMARY
PRESENTATION TITLE

• dark matter, Nonluminous matter not directly detectable by astronomers,

hypothesized to exist because the mass of the visible matter in the universe
cannot account for observed gravitational effects. Dark matter comes in two
varieties: baryonic, which is about 5 percent of the universe, and nonbaryonic,
which is 22 percent of the universe. The nonbaryonic dark matter is believed
to consist of heavy, electromagnetically neutral particles called weakly
interacting massive particles (WIMPs).
